Departmental Clerk
To provide reception, registration, and appointment booking for patients in the Rehabilitation Services Department. To provide Administrative assistance the Director and Clinical Coordinator.

Essential Functions:
Reception/Clerical Functions:
- Works with the therapy staff to generally expedite care for patients referred for therapy.
- Receives patients and registers them using the computer system.
- Cancels appointments in the event of staff illness or unexpected absence.
- Books initial and follow-up/return appointments when appropriate.
- Maintains exact balance in cash drawer.
- Balances drawer at the end of each work day and deposits money in safe.
- Receives co-payments from patient when registering for appointments.
- Recovery registers all patients from the prior day as needed.
Focused on providing excellent service both to our members and other Medical Center staff.
Telephone Communication:
- Answers phone, takes messages, and assists members with general information and/or
directs members to therapist's voice-mail.
Administrative Functions:
- Handles incoming and outgoing departmental mail.
- Orients and trains new reception staff.
- Orients new staff to the reception area.
- Collects and records daily statistical information.
- Monitors schedules of providers to identify available appointments.
- Calls patients to fill appointments, as they are available.
- Assist the Director and Clinic Supervisor with other problems, as requested.
- Performs other duties as assigned, including all duties required in the generic position description for a cashier-receptionist.
Professional Conduct/Behavior:
- Is compliant with all Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) regulations.
Grade 4
Basic Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Testing: Typing 35 WPM
- Testing: Medical Terminology (able to pass standardized test)
- Testing: PC Skills Test (able to pass PC skills assessment)
- Two (2) years- experience in dealing with the public.
- Able to utilize computer system to register patients.
- Able to communicate effectively on the telephone possesses good telephone skills.
- Able to accurately transmit messages.
- Able to count currency and make change.
- Able to file accurately.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a medical setting preferred.
Skills Testing: PC skills test (able to pass PC skills assessment), Medical Terminology (able to pass standardized test) and typing 35WPM
