Medical Secretary (On-Call)
Position Summary:
In compliance with department standards, transcribes (gross, microscopic, autopsy, outside consults) from various recording media and component parts of and for the medical record, as dictated by the physician(s).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Transcribes all dictated reports in accordance with department standards, priorities and job schedules
Completes appropriate routing, handling, and processing off reports in the department in accordance with department policy and procedure.
Maintain daily log of transcription activity-
Assist physicians in use of Pathology dictation equipment or in problems while dictating.
Ability to effectively communicate with medical staff.
Must demonstrate caring and courteous attitude towards medical/professional staff and co-workers.
Perform other clerical related duties as necessary.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this Job, the incumbent is regularly required to sit, twist at neck ,fine finger manipulation (typing) and simple grasping (computer mouse). The incumbent is occasionally required to stand, walk, bend at the neck. The incumbent will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an incumbent encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Works in high volume pathology laboratory providing ongoing transcription support.
While performing the duties of this Job, the incumbent may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, sharps and biological hazards. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate

Minimum Qualifications:
A previous experience in Pathology and/or Medical Transcription required
High School Diploma/GED
Knowledge of pathology/laboratory computer systems.
Completion of medical terminology course at an accredited institution OR demonstrated equivalency.
Medical transcription and/or previous experience in Pathology required.
Competency in Word
Completion of an anatomy and physiology course at an accredited institution OR demonstrated equivalency preferred.
Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment.
