Job Summary:

Under limited supervision, coordinates bed assignment functions w/ Emergency Dept., Nursing, Utilization Management, EPRP, SPMG physicians, & Admitting personnel. Maintains information related to internal & external bed capacities. Facilitate placement for all patients per established protocols & within KFH & non-KFH contract criteria. Trains & orients personnel in bed placement processes.

- Upholds KPs Policies & Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities & applicable state, federal & local laws
- Maintains information regarding bed availability within KFH & external contracts
- Monitors admissions, discharges & transfers utilizing internal systems & consistent verbal interaction w/ key contacts
- Assigns beds for both scheduled & non-scheduled admissions based upon established criteria
- Coordinates bed assignment functions w/ Admitting Clerks, Emergency Dept, Nursing, Utilization Management, & Physicians following placement protocols & Contract criteria
- Provides clinical & ancillary staff w/ up to the minute bed availability & admission notification
- Completes & distributes written Bed Status information bi-hourly & the Outside Admissions Log PRN
- In accordance w/ established guidelines, notifies Admitting Manager & House Manager of need to activate and/or cancel Census Action Protocol
- Informs overflow contract hospitals when KFH has activated Census Action Protocol & obtains external bed counts
- Calculates & completes the local & divisional indicator & bed activity reports
- Facilitate repatriation decisions regarding KP patients outside of the KP system in conjunction w/ the House Manager daily
- Provides work flow direction to clinical & non-clinical staff relative to bed assignment & patient placement in conjunction w/ the House Manager as directed by the Admitting Coordinator or Supervisor of Patient Registration
- Orients new staff on duties/functions of Central Bed Placement
- Assists in performing Admitting Clerk functions when necessary
- Attends sub-committees and/or focus groups regarding admitting & bed placement as required
- Performs other related duties as required
- Equipment Utilized: CRT, PC, typewriter, printers, Fax, Multiphone line, pager
- Assume other activities & responsibilities from time to time as directed
Basic Qualifications:
Experience

- One (1) year of medical office or hospital experience required
- Medical Terminology required
- 30 wpm
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work rapidly and accurately with phone, personnel and patient interruptions
- Strong customer service skills required
