Orthopedic Technician II
Under the supervision of the Orthopedic Supervisor and/or departmental physicians or extenders, assists the physicians with all routine orthopedic procedures to include: applying casts, splints, bandages, and pre-fabricated braces; furnishing, adjusting and instructing patients in the use of various orthopedic devices; setting up and maintaining orthopedic traction. Act as a 1st assist in any orthopedic surgical procedure in the operating room or minor procedure rooms. Responds appropriately within a specified time period to emergency situations when requested by physician or extenders of any department.

- PATIENT PROCEDURES AND ACTIVITIES: All Orthopedic Tech I duties. Stands call for a specified timeframe on a rotational basis.Must respond within 30 minutes to emergency situations when requested by physicians or extenders of any department. Visits patients at home or nursing facility as required. Assist physician in developing new techniques and procedures. Act as 1st Assist in any orthopedic surgical case in operating room or minor procedure room under the direct supervision of the surgeon. Performs representative duties of Surgical Technician job description for Orthopedic procedures. Reviews and prepares each case, preps, positions and drapes each patient prior to procedure. Ties pre-placed subcutaneous and skin sutures and applies proper dressing as directed by surgeon. Assist physicians or extenders with orthopedic procedures in the emergency room (for example cleanse wounds, reduce fractures, pin insertions, apply surgical dressings). Provide Emergency Room or outlying clinic physicians or extender with information regarding specific type of casting to be done relating to the specific injury.

- ADMINISTRATIVE All Orthopedic Tech I duties. Assist with orientation and training of new or less experienced personnel. Coordinate department activities with other departments. Serve as a resource person to co-workers by answering procedural questions and assisting in problem solving.
- OTHER ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assume other activities and responsibilities as needed. Follows established service standards as set forth in LMP ABCs. That is, Take Initiative, Take Responsibility, Take Care and Take Pride. Demonstrate compliance in all above 4 areas. Examples: make a positive first impression, protect patient privacy and confidentiality, assume ownership, resolve conflict, show respect, maintain you environment and support your team. Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.
- Two (2 years' experience as an Orthopedic Technician within the last three (3) years.
- Graduate of an accredited Orthopedic Technician program or equivalent training in the military or two (2) years of full-time experience as an Orthopedic Technician.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
- Orthopedic Technologist Certificate within 3 months of hire from National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists
- Basic Life Support
- Must be available for Primary assist on call and standby.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrates knowledge and ability to utilize principles, practices, and techniques of basic human anatomy, types of fractures, orthopedic equipment, and use of cast & splints.
- Ability to demonstrate and apply knowledge of cast application and traction and orthopedic appliance application.
- Ability to demonstrate and utilize knowledge of surgical orthopedic and sterile techniques.
- Under direct supervision, the ability to work and assist in the Operating Room.
- Customer service skills.
- Must be willing to travel between locations, work varied locations and varied hours.
- This is an on-call position. Must be willing to work varied shifts and weekends.
