Director, Construction Management
Provides director-level leadership for planning and executing healthcare construction programs and individual capital projects from early scope development through closeout. Oversees and manages construction projects, including approving budgets, directing staffing, and evaluating potential project risks. Directs program performance by providing strategic direction for construction metrics and performance monitoring. Oversees project teams and vendor partners; drives budget, schedule, quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and stakeholder communication; and establishes performance metrics and standards to ensure predictable delivery and strong customer satisfaction .Leads vendor relationship management, including vendor assessment, performance analytics, qualification review (e.g., financial capability, bonding, safety records), and accountability for compliance with vendor management practices.
- Directs and oversees multiple construction projects and/or a portfolio of capital programs, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities, budgets, and approved needs.
- Leads project delivery teams (internal staff, project coordinators/managers, general contractors, consultants) by setting expectations, assigning resources, and resolving escalated issues across the project lifecycle.
- Owns project financial performance by developing/validating budgets and estimates, approving budget recommendations, monitoring cost and cash flow, and evaluating financial risk and mitigation strategies.
- Establishes, monitors, and reports construction performance metrics (schedule, cost, quality, safety, vendor performance) and uses insights to drive continuous improvement.
- Oversees safety programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and organizational standards; implements and leads crisis management response strategies as needed.
- Ensures contracting alignment and compliance, partnering with Contracts and Legal as appropriate; negotiates and administers agreements for design consultants and contractors.
- Provides technical guidance on planning, scheduling, constructability, and implementation; mentors project managers and serves as an escalation point for complex project decisions.
- Builds and maintains effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring proactive and consistent communication on scope, risks, progress, and outcomes.
- Recruits, develops, and retains talent; coaches leaders and teams; and ensures performance management practices support business objectives.
- Oversees and manages construction projects by: directing and influencing the management of related financials for accurate and timely budgets, cost estimates, and pre-construction services, and approving budget recommendations; directing and aligning staffing and staffing resources in accordance with project objectives and corporate policies; evaluating potential project financial risks and providing recommendations to management to avoid or resolve issues; and implementing and leading crisis management response strategies.
- Directs program performance by: providing strategic direction for construction metrics and performance monitoring; overseeing safety programs to ensure compliance with all regulatory and organizational standards; directing implementation and providing strategic insights for the development of facilities design standards to ensure quality solutions; and establishing and maintaining relationships with internal and external customers and ensuring teams proactive communication throughout project lifecycle to ensure goals are met.
- Oversees vendor relationship management by: holding the management team accountable for managing vendor relationships, including vendor assessment, performance, and compliance with current vendor management practices; obtaining advanced research knowledge on vendor management relationship trends and directing the development of strategies for business practices; and drives accurate examination of financial qualifications, bonding capability, and safety records of potential vendors to be added to the Master Vendor list; and driving the strategic thinking to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of vendor performance analytics and vendor assessments extending the understanding of a given field.
- Minimum ten (10) years of experience in the general construction industry, construction management, or directly related field.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience managing operations or project budgets.
- Minimum seven (7) years of experience in a leadership role with direct reports.
- Bachelors degree in construction management, architecture, structural or electrical engineering, or related field OR four (4) years of directly related experience.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
