Job Summary:

The Regional President serves as the organization-s leader for the KP Mid-Atlantic States (MAS) market, setting and ensuring achievement of both the short- and long-term strategies and performance of the market. The Regional President is responsible for aligning initiatives and decisions across the KP Mid-Atlantic States market to optimize performance; assuring continual assessment of market opportunities and challenges, and developing and implementing business and operational plans which address growth, service, and quality of care, work environment, employer of choice climate, revenue, cost and margin targets, capital requirements, legal and regulatory compliance, and community involvement.

The Regional President is accountable for, among other things, overseeing hospital care delivery in coordination with the EMD, and other care delivery operations and support services led by administrative or clinical professional health plan administrators who collaborate with the Medical Group. This includes driving continuous improvement, care delivery transformation, and hospital operations. Additionally, in collaboration with the Health Plan, and Executive Medical Director, drives improvements in quality, patient outcomes and care experience. The role is responsible for seamless care delivery coordination, post-acute services, and supporting departments across all medical facilities. The Regional President implements national guidelines and operating standards across all care delivery and virtual settings to ensure that resources are deployed in a manner that maximizes value and meets patient and member needs.

The Regional President must understand and anticipate industry trends for members and customers in the market and accomplishes this in collaboration with National Health Plan, and the PMGs. The Regional President also collaborates with the Health Plan to execute health plan products and services.

The Regional President must balance and represent the multiple perspectives and priorities of the market in his/her leadership approach. This role serves as the connector between strategy and operational execution, making sure the front lines of care are supported, resourced, and continuously improving. The success of the Regional President is evaluated against his/her ability and competence to produce the desired results within the market, while supporting national initiatives to create balance and alignment.


Essential Responsibilities:

  • Drive operational excellence by applying national standards, high-reliability operating models, and disciplined performance improvement to deliver quality, service, access, and affordability.
  • Execute business and operational plans that strengthen growth, expand capacity, improve clinical quality and patient experience, enhance financial performance, and support community needs across the entire continuum of care. Owns the market-s P&L, managing a budget to support performance and growth, in collaboration with the health plan and medical group.
  • Optimizes the total cost of care for services delivered to KP members in the market.
  • Drive innovation, transformation and performance improvement initiatives that achieve growth, affordability, service, and quality objectives in partnership with the Health Plan and PMG.
  • Develops a multi-year strategy in alignment with the overall ICC portfolio in collaboration with the PMGs and National Health Plan.
  • Translates national and market strategic goals into operational plans (e.g., care transformation, digital health, workforce initiatives).
  • Drives day-to-day operational excellence through national standards, high-reliability operating models, performance improvement, transformation, and efficient resource deployment for quality, service, access, and affordability.
  • Provide executive oversight to ensure the market meets all quality, regulatory, and accreditation requirements across all care settings.
  • Drives delivery system planning and capital planning processes to include facilities and IT, aligned with the market-s strategic plan.
  • Leverages resources and capabilities by engaging National Functions to deliver on market needs (e.g., national strategy, health plan, IT, to deliver health plan products).
  • Serves as the face of the market, collaborating with Health Plan leaders to establish and leverage effective relationships in the community with business, government, and community leaders that support initiatives to grow membership and market share.
  • Supports and manages the Labor Strategy to optimize opportunities for partnership with unions, mitigate risks of disruption, realize sustainable labor/value equation (costs/quality and productivity), and maintain commitment to a robust, engaged workforce.
  • Builds relationships with leaders of healthcare systems in the local market to deliver care.
  • Develops a high performing leadership team, building leadership capacity and bench strength.
  • Drives and owns building a sustained, engaged, and committed workforce and high performing culture that supports KP-s mission and enterprise/market/local objectives.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience

  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of broad experience, including strong leadership and management.
Education

  • Bachelor-s degree required.

Additional Requirements:
  • Experience around building high performing teams and a culture of accountability along with in-depth knowledge and expertise in contracting and network development in a managed care environment.
  • Successful performance as a P&L owner with a deep understanding of healthcare delivery and care delivery operations and a track record of growth and positive financial results of care delivery services.
  • Demonstrated leadership capacity to assume direct accountability for care delivery operations producing multi billion dollars in revenue and the ability to lead, motivate, coach, develop, and mentor people to achieve agreed-upon results.
  • Ideally, the successful candidate will bring direct experience in the local care delivery market with an understanding of state and local regulatory dynamics.
  • Prior experience working in a complex payer organization, possessing facilitation, negotiation, and consensus building skills.
  • The Regional President must have strong financial acumen, strategic thinking capacity, effective communication skills, and a proven track record of building and maintaining effective partnerships with all internal and external constituents. He/she must be a leader who demonstrates the capacity to understand, appreciate, and advance local market values and culture.
  • The ability to set clear and challenging goals while committing the organization to improved performance; tenacious and accountable in driving results.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience working in an integrated delivery system or provider-sponsored plan is a plus.
  • MBA preferred.
