The PGY2 Pharmacy Residency provides the opportunity and guidance necessary for the resident to acquire intensive training, knowledge and educational experiences in highly specialized pharmacy services within a managed care organization. The resident participates in collaborative interdisciplinary practice to provide comprehensive pharmaceutical care to Kaiser Permanente members and enhance clinical management skills and leadership expertise. The resident provides support to clinical pharmacy services, pharmacy operations, pharmacy infusion, pharmacy support services and the medical group by participation in projects regarding appropriate use of medication therapy as well as and other clinical services or activities in the managed care setting.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Participates in collaborative interdisciplinary practice to provide patient, population and medication therapy management.
- Must have successfully completed a first year (PGY 1 or similar) pharmacy residency program, prior to start date in position.
- Candidates must be graduates or candidates for graduation from an ACPE accredited degree program (or one in the process of pursuing accreditation) or
- Have a degree in pharmacy meeting minimum educational requirements for pharmacist licensure in Virginia and Maryland or
- Have a Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Committee (FPGEC) certificate from the National Associations of Board of Pharmacy (NABP).
- Pharmacist License (Virginia) within 4 months of hire OR Pharmacy Intern License (District of Columbia) required at hire OR Pharmacist License (District of Columbia) within 4 months of hire OR Pharmacist Intern License (Maryland) required at hire OR Pharmacist License (Maryland) within 4 months of hire OR Pharmacist Intern License (Virginia) required at hire
- Resident must be a licensed Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date. Residents who are not licensed as a pharmacist within 120 days from the program start date will be dismissed from the program and employment will be terminated.
- Completion of an ASHP - Accredited PGY1 Pharmacy Residency program prior to start date.
- Must participate in and adhere to the rules of the Resident Matching Program (RMP) or the Early Commitment process.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Effective communication skills and demonstrated writing ability.
- Ability to collaborate well with pharmacists, technicians, prescribers and other health care professionals.
- Strives for excellence in quality of work.
- Possesses skills that support efficient and consistent practices for completing work and meeting deadlines.
- Expected to travel to Kaiser Permanente locations in VA, MD and DC and other locales for conferences and seminars.
- Demonstrates composure during peak times of activity.
- Demonstrates enthusiasm and dedication to the pharmacy profession and flexible approach to work.
- Demonstrates an ability to conduct thorough analysis of medication therapy and provide recommendations to pharmacy leadership.
