Description:
Job Summary:

Under general supervision, monitors activities of Environmental Services to ensure clean, orderly, sanitary, and attractive conditions at Medical Center.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Alters prepared daily assignment schedules as needed to include established routine duties as well as special areas to be cleaned; maintains high quality service at all times to all areas.

  • Inspects each assigned area regularly to observe cleaning crews at work; determines and ensures that instructions are properly followed and safety rules observed.

  • Inspects hospital premises and equipment; determines next assignments to assure that trash and garbage disposal meet safety, health, and sanitation regulations; supports organizations recycling program.

  • Inspects and evaluates hospital equipment and furnishings for unusual and/or unsafe conditions; initiates work order requisitions for maintenance as needed; recommends new supply and equipment purchases.

  • Instructs personnel in use of new equipment and cleaning methods to provide efficient and effective methods of maintaining MMC.

  • Trains new employees; assigns them to tasks, and closely monitors them until fully trained.

  • Effectively recommends personnel actions such as employing, promoting, transferring, counseling or terminating of same.

  • Gathers, compiles, and records data and information for routine, special, or cost reports and studies, e.g., scrub losses, hazard waste collection, linen, cleaned rooms, including extending and checking timecards for accuracy.

  • Mops, sweeps, washes, polishes, waxes or otherwise cleans floors, walls, windows, furnishings, fixture, equipment and like in clinic halls, office, reception and waiting room and inpatient areas, restrooms, lanais, passage and hallways, and examination, treatment, storage and coffee break rooms, etc.

  • Gathers, packs, totes and disposes of rubbish, litter or other waste in safe, sanitary and neat manner, including hazardous and infectious waste.

  • Lifts, totes, checks pack, unpacks, moves, stores, delivers or distributes equipment, material, supplies or other matter to assure it is being properly accounted for, handled or stored.

  • Performs variety of unskilled duties such as operate floor washer, shampoo equipment, wet and dry vacuums, scrubber or polisher, etc.

  • Maintains records such as workers wage and hour data, employee inservice training, and areas of MMC that have/have not been cleaned; assists in preparation of quality of service or assurance data or reports.

  • Assumes responsibility for maintaining lost and found and deceased patient records for convenience of patients, visitors and employees.

  • Participates and contributes in programs, committees, or projects designed to improve quality of service and employee productivity.

  • Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide care and/or service appropriate to age groups served.

  • Demonstrates knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to provide culturally sensitive care and/or service.

  • Performs other duties and accepts responsibility as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • One (1) year supervisory/lead experience in Environmental Services or related area.

Education

  • High school diploma; or equivalent combination of education (lesser) & experience may be considered in lieu of requirements.
License, Certification, Registration

Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in interpersonal relations, customer service (handling patients and visitor complaints in a tactful, courteous and professional manner), oral communication, and written communication.
  • Talking to co-workers, customers, outside vendors, on the telephone and supervising others.
  • Reading, writing, speaking and understanding English.
  • Training/giving and receiving instructions.
  • Mathematical ability, attention to detail (e.g., organization, prioritization, proofing), concentration, and alertness.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in coordinating/conducting in-service training sessions.
  • Some background in basic equipment maintenance and recordkeeping.
  • Post high school coursework in writing and basic accounting.
