Description:
Job Summary:

The purpose of this position is to ensure a trained, competent clinical staff across the KPGA Region to provide safe, effective patient care in compliance with regulatory requirements, professional standards, and internal policy. The Professional Development Specialist Lead researches, designs, and conducts training programs and competency validations based on needs assessments and evaluates and revises these programs to produce the desired learning and performance outcomes. These training programs include, but are not limited to, orientation and continuing education to ensure on-going clinical competency. The Professional Development Specialist Lead collaborates with department directors / managers and physicians and provides consultation and support for other departments in matters related to clinical performance or programs. The Prof Development Specialist Lead will coordinate the PDS Team schedules of regional and national education or professional practice assignments of projects, trainings, competencies, programs, in-services, policies, Scope of Practice, CEUs, Lunch & Learn, Train-the-trainer events, newsletters, Magnet assignments, submit payroll, and conduct other duties as needed.


Essential Responsibilities:


  • Provides and facilitates training and educational programs for clinical and medical office staff across the KPGA Region.

  • Designs training curriculum (manuals, presentations, e-learning) using instructional design and adult learning principles.

  • Conducts learning needs assessment of the clinical staff to identify gaps and target training / educational initiatives.

  • Researches and writes evidence-based clinical lesson plans that include measurable objectives and teaching strategies appropriate for the adult learner.

  • Employs high quality delivery and presentation skills in a classroom environment, using audiovisual and technical equipment skillfully.

  • Conducts individual coaching and feedback to support reinforcement of learning.

  • Provides consultation and support as a nursing / clinical practice subject matter expert to regional and health care team leaders.

  • Assists in preparation and opening of new medical offices or internalization of services / departments to ensure training of staff and compliance with regulatory requirements.

  • Manages projects and leads project teams to ensure attainment of targeted outcomes in a timely and effective manner.

  • Researches and recommends the use or purchase of commercially prepared educational, audio-visual and/ or electronic materials.

  • Coordinates the Nursing QI Monitoring Program, identifies areas for improvement and supports the nursing staff to effect improvements and regulatory compliance.

  • Applies for continuing education credits for training programs, ensuring that all requirements of the granting organization are met and documented. Prepares and submits, or assists with preparation and submission, of application for renewal of certification every three years by the American Nurses Credentialing Center and Georgia Nurses Association as a continuing education provider.

  • Researches, writes, and assists in the review/revision/approval process of Nursing Policies & Procedures and Telephone Advice Guidelines.

  • Utilizes educational resources and equipment efficiently to support departmental and Regional financial targets.

  • Maintains and updates his/her professional knowledge and skills in the areas of training, adult education, healthcare issues, trends and clinical practice.

  • Travel to all offices within the KPGA Region may be required.

  • Coordinates PDS team assignments, team cross-coverage, regional and national projects, committee or workgroup assignments.

  • Researches, writes and assists with review/revision/approval of Health Plan Scope of Practice of Nursing, MA, or Tech working in the clinics.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum five (5) years of clinical experience, including experience in leadership and/or education/training roles.

Education

  • Bachelor of science in nursing.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Professional Nurse License (Georgia)
  • Basic Life Support - Instructor within 3 months of hire
  • Basic Life Support
Additional Requirements:

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles and classroom techniques.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum one (1) year of experience in a teaching / training environment.
  • Minimum one (1) year in an ambulatory care setting.
  • Certification in Ambulatory Care Nursing, Staff Development, Administration, or related field.
  • Masters degree in nursing or related field.
