Job Summary:

The Nursing Supervisor of Staff Development, Education and Training supervises, plans, develops, implements, coordinates, directs, evaluates a variety of staff development, education and training activities and programs designed to optimize outcomes for patient/resident care and quality of life. Collaborates and co-supervises nursing standards of practice for patients, residents and staff.  Co-manages data reporting. Assumes joint responsibility for quality management program for assigned nursing areas and education and competency of nursing and ancillary staff.



Essential Responsibilities:


  • Designs, develops, implements, coordinates, supervises and evaluates activities, programs, and processes designed to optimize care.

  • Collaborates with health care teams in resources and quality management. 

  • Evaluates processes and systems and recommends and/or implements improvements.

  • Supervises float pool and contract staffing.

  • Supervises nursing staffing to ensure high quality patient care services at optimal controllable cost.

  • Participates in or coordinates/leads various leadership, multidisciplinary teams and task forces meetings to improve patient care and services, control costs and/or meet other needs across continuum.

  • Hires, trains, supervises, counsels, disciplines, and terminates assigned staff as appropriate.

  • Communicates goals, objectives, accountabilities, priorities, and authority parameters to assigned staff.

  • Assumes responsibility with department managers for staff education and clinical competency program for all levels of nursing staff.

  • Collaborates with nursing managers to develop programs and patient and family education. 

  • Coordinates educational and professional development activities, such as tracking staff education, arranging for trainers and training locations, etc.

  • Implements and maintains quality control standards.

  • Provides guidance and support for quality initiatives. 

  • Monitors and evaluates outcomes.

  • Reviews policies and protocols related to care and management of patients.

  • Recommends and implements changes.

  • Collaborates with other departments regarding issues and processes which affect patients.

  • Represents nursing on behalf of assigned population.

  • May perform patient care to the extent necessary to maintain clinical expertise, competency, and licensing necessary to fulfill job responsibilities and to direct the provision of care on the unit.

  • Provides direct patient care on an as needed basis.

  • Provides services that are within scope of license and in compliance with all legal, regulatory, and policy requirements relevant to clinical role performed.

  • Incorporates the KP Nursing Vision, Model and Values throughout their nursing practice.

  • Must be a supportive team member/leader, contribute to and be an example of teamwork and team.

  • Performs other duties as may be assigned from time to time by supervisor.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience


  • Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience.


Education


  • Bachelors degree in Nursing OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.


License, Certification, Registration


  • Basic Life Support OR CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers



  • Registered Nurse License (Hawaii)
