Job Summary:

Under clinical guideline and/or direction of physician in charge provides comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services or patient care and education. Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of ones actions; develops and sustains productive member/patient relationships. Actively seeks information to understand member/patient circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs. Builds rapport and cooperative relationship with members/patients. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs and resolves problems.



Essential Responsibilities:


  • This position, knows and complies with all Kaiser Permanente quality, safety, and emergency policies and procedures. Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice in every interaction with patients, colleagues, providers, and leadership. Ensures patient safety in the preparation and provisioning of care related to but not limited to medications, procedures, infection prevention, fall prevention, including consistent use of two patient identifiers and procedural time outs. Reports safety hazards, accidents and incidents, and unsafe working conditions promptly.

  • Collects, analyzes and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet the patient specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/psychological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history), and to determine final testing parameter in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director protocols.

  • Instructs and educates patient in preparing for treatment for sleep related breathing disorders, operation of equipment, sleep apnea, and instruction and demonstration on use of home recording equipment.

  • Handles all testing preparation procedures such as calibrating equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and making adjustments if needed, applies electrodes and sensors according to accepted standards, performs appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals, and performs positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.

  • Monitors patients compliance and effectiveness of treatment. Reviews follow up testing results and adjusts therapeutic program accordingly.

  • Perfoms Polysomnographic record scoring by analyzing sleep studies applying professionally accepted guidelines. Generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.

  • Completes orders for outside in lab testing and completes orders sent to Apria.

  • Trouble shoots equipment with recording, downloads, computers and printers.

  • Performs other duties as required.

  • In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors and principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives. Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide superior and culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, and to purchasers, contracted providers and vendors.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience



  • Minimum one (1) year of work experience as a registered polysomnographic technologist with patient interaction required.

  • Per the National Agreement, current KP Coalition employees have this experience requirement waived.

  • Polysomnographic Technologist Certificate from Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists
Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to operate sleep equipment and perform related sleep studies and interpret tests.
