Description:
Job Summary:

The Research Data Analyst provides research methods consultation, data management, statistical analysis and report generation for the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J Tyson School of Medicine (KPSOM). The Research Data Analyst supports scholarly projects of varying complexity in a variety of health-related research areas.  The Research Data Analyst provides analytic support to enable successful research as part of curricular requirements for students and to advance faculty research.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • With support from senior staff, determines and implements appropriate measurement and analytical methods to achieve analytical project objectives.
  • Coordinates with other project team members (statisticians, project managers, and other data analysts) to accomplish analytical project objectives.
  • Plans for optimal approaches to summarizing data and communicating analytical results. Develops, as required, innovative or customized templates and formats.
  • Evaluates quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy of project data, results, written reports, and presentation materials.
  • Determines efficient approaches to data collection and validation. Extracts, loads, cleans and manipulates data for research projects. Identifies and resolves data quality issues, as required.
  • Designs and creates written reports and presentation materials describing project objectives, methods, data, and results. Contributes to peer-reviewed manuscripts for publication.
  • Comprehensively documents, organizes, and files analyses and results for retention of records related to research.
  • Demonstrates effective data retrieval techniques, programming practices, and statistical analysis and data visualization methods.
  • Develops detailed measurement and reporting specifications based on project characteristics and requirements provided by project leadership.

Experience

  • Minimum one (1) related years of work experience.
Education

  • Masters degree.

Additional Requirements:

  • Experience using R, Python and/or SAS
  • Disciplinary training in quantitative measurement methods (mathematics or statistics), ideally in the context of a quantitative social science or health services research.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in written and verbal communication of technical material.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness working as a member of a technical project team on complex projects.
  • Experience with analysis of large databases (e.g. health care administrative data) and computer-intensive statistical analysis, multivariate statistical methods, general research methodology.
  • Skills in analytical methods including problem and model formulation, algorithm selection, and development of overall solution strategy.
  • Creativity, critical thinking, and excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication and effective interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum five (5) related years of work experience (i.e. in an analytical environment, preferably in healthcare, education or research).
  • Minimum 1-2 years of analyst work experience preferably in healthcare, education or research).
  • Knowledge of healthcare industry, especially healthcare analytics preferred.
  • Familiarity with Kaiser Permanente healthcare system preferred.
