Description:
Job Summary:

Plan, implement, direct and evaluate the education program in the facility based on identified resident needs, staff needs and federal, state and local regulations.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Evaluate resident and staff needs, and provide the Administrator and Director of Nursing with comprehensive recommendations concerning the educational needs of all facility staff. Prepare lesson plans containing objectives, course content, method of instruction and method of evaluation for each class scheduled and completed. Supervise classroom and clinical activities of nursing staff.  Implement education programs on all tours of duty, including new employee orientation programs, on an ongoing basis.  Consistently operate the education department program within the budget guidelines. Perform other related duties as directed by his/her supervisor.

  • Interpret and implement established facility policies, procedures and regulations for nursing staff.  Maintain records for nursing assistants and licensed nurses current certifications/licenses, expiration dates and other required records.

  • Supervise and evaluate nursing conformance to facility policies, procedures and regulations.  Assume accountability for all data contained in the employees handbook.

  • Plan and provide the Administrator and Director of Nursing Service with an annual schedule of education Programs. Plan, schedule and post monthly calendar of education programs in a timely manner. Maintain current education records of classes conducted, attendance and clinical performance of each nursing assistant. Maintain an education profile for each nursing assistant, listing each class attended, date, time period and evaluation of performance.

  • Manage the approved education program, and submit approval forms as required by the state agency. Submit, in writing, any program changes to appropriate regulatory agency. Continually assess the education program to assure implementation of the approved program.

  • Participate in the employee evaluation process by providing attendance records and observation of nursing staff performance to the Director of Nursing.  Assume Quality Assurance duties as assigned.  Consistently work cooperatively with residents, nursing supervisor, other licensed nurses, nursing assistants, physicians, families, consultants, community agencies and ancillary service personnel.

  • Observe and teach the facility infection control, safety and Residents Rights policies and procedures to all staff.  Be responsible for the safety of residents under his/her supervision.

  • Assume responsibility for obtaining continuing education relating to the care of the geriatric resident and nursing education.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum three (3) years of patient care experience required.

  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in the areas of curriculum design, development and evaluation required.

Education

  • Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
  • BSN or bachelors degree in health care or related field required, OR four (4) years of experience in a directly related field.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nurse License (California) OR Vocational Nurse License (California)
  • Staff Development Certification
Additional Requirements:

  • Knowledge of Nurse Practice Act, federal, state and local requirements.
  • Demonstrate ability to independently utilize skills/knowledge in outcome measurement/educational program evaluation and qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize communication, consultation, facilitation, influencing, negotiation and interpersonal skills with variety of management and other personnel, including external partners/groups.
  • Ability to utilize multiple software programs, video conferencing, inter-active media and interactive distance learning/website and network materials/resources.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a skilled nursing facility staff developer preferred.
  • Masters degree in nursing education or healthcare related field preferred.
