Description:
Under minimal supervision of the Manager of Regional or Facility Laboratories, participates in strategic planning, including plans for staffing, training and implementation of new testing/equipment/processes. Manages all technical and administrative laboratory functions of assigned facilities with clinical operations. Ensures that the assigned facilities are operating in full compliance with current state and federal laboratory regulations which includes quality control and quality assurance components, and with current regional and laboratory department policies and procedures. Responsible for staff recruitment and leadership development for approximately 25-35 positions across four to five Level 2 facilities, including supervisory coverage for Level 3 facility 24/7 operations or four to five Level 1 facilities plus Micro Clinics or complex technical operations at Regional Lab.
Job Summary:

Essential Responsibilities:
- Manages assigned staff and implementation of operational initiatives: Responsible for interviewing, hiring, managing performance and terminating staff or approval of these decisions. Ensures that all staff are oriented and trained and complete required continuing education. Responsible for counseling, coaching and developing staff. Develops staffing model for assigned facilities within budget. Provides leadership for process improvement efforts. Collaborates on common department goals and facilitates individual goal setting, providing or approving performance assessment, review of progress and performance appraisals. Participates in succession planning.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with regulations, policies & procedures: Ensures current collection/testing policies and procedures are available and followed in assigned facilities. Responsible for communication of new and updated policies and procedures to staff. Ensures any deviation from expected results for quality control and proficiency testing is addressed and a plan for correction is developed and executed. Oversees the laboratory safety program. Responsible for monitoring compliance of clinical staff with point of care testing regulation. Reviews quality assurance data for assigned facilities and facilitates development of improvement measures. Responsible for assigned facilities state and internal DHR survey performance and action plan for deficiencies. Responsible for new/annual renewal applications for laboratory licensure for assigned facilities.
- Monitors and manages customer service delivery for assigned facilities: Ensures member/provider follow up for any testing, specimen or customer service issues. Monitors member satisfaction and SMILES scoring for assigned facilities and addresses declining service trends.
- Collaborates with other supervisors, facility clinical staff and other organizational entities: Represents the laboratory in assigned facilities leadership group, communicating new information and changes, soliciting assistance with resolution of inter departmental issues. Works closely with other supervisors to maintain consistency of laboratory operations. Marshalls support for laboratory strategies/initiatives in assigned facilities.
- Provides feedback to managers: Participates in budget preparation, including capital equipment and FTE allocation, entering budget data and capital business cases. Provides justification for over budget expenses of assigned facilities and makes necessary changes/adjustments for budget control. Assists quality manager in reviewing, updating and implementing laboratory policies and procedures.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience
- Minimum five (5) years of post certification MT experience.
- Minimum two (2) year previous supervisory experience.
Education
- Bachelors Degree in Medical Technology or Allied Health Sciences or four (4) years of experience in a directly related experience.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.
License, Certification, Registration
- GA Dept HR CLIA MT MLT Grnfthr OR Medical Lab Technician Certificate OR American Medical Technologist Medical Technologist Certificate OR Medical Technologist Certificate OR Medical Lab Scientist Certificate
Additional Requirements:
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Computer skills; Microsoft Office.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Masters Degree preferred.

Pay Range: $83900 - $108570 / year
