Description:
Job Summary:

Provide high quality urgent/emergent health care to Kaiser Permanente members in a cost effective manner in accordance with accepted professional practice standards.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Provide high quality health care through direct assessment, diagnoses, and formulation/implementation of treatment plan for patients with common acute and chronic illnesses and injuries (may include performing histories and physicals; ordering, interpreting, and following up on diagnostic studies; ordering medications; performing minor surgery. Perform health maintenance services, including patient education. Refer patients for specialty consultations. Arrange for admission to hospital when needed for appropriate care following appropriate standards of practice. Document in writing all care in the patients permanent medical record in accordance with accepted medical/legal standards. Provide all medical care in accordance with accepted practice standards, hospital/clinic protocols, including supervision by a physician as required, and state licensing guidelines.

  • Coordinate, develop and organize patient or department services or programs. Examples include, but are not limited to: Assist in developing department protocols. Coordinate CME activities for department. Develop written patient education materials. Provide in-service training. Proctor PA{/NP} students. Chair or participate on committees such as redesign and patient flow, triage criteria.

  • Performs other duties as requested.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience


  • Minimum (1) one year of Emergency Medicine/Urgent Care or broad-based Family Practice within the last 5 years.


Education


  • Graduate of AMA-approved PA training program, or graduate of ANA-approved NP training program or equivalent requirements to meet State licensure.


License, Certification, Registration


  • This job requires credentials from multiple states. Credentials from the primary work state are required before hire. Additional Credentials from the secondary work state(s) are required post hire.



  • Nurse Practitioner License (Oregon) within 6 months of hire AND Nurse Practitioner National Certificate AND Registered Nurse License (Oregon) within 6 months of hire AND Registered Nurse License (Washington) within 6 months of hire AND Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Certificate - Prescriptive Authority (Washington) within 6 months of hire AND Schedule II Prescription Privileges Certificate (Oregon) within 6 months of hire

  • Physician Assistant License (Oregon) within 6 months of hire AND Physician Assistant National Certificate AND Physician Assistant License (Washington) within 6 months of hire



  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support required at hire



  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support required at hire



  • National Provider Identifier required at hire



  • Basic Life Support required at hire



  • Drug Enforcement Administration Registration


Additional Requirements:


  • Thorough and working knowledge of all common diseases and injuries in patients of all ages; familiarity with less common diseases and injuries in patients of all ages.

  • Working knowledge of State health care laws, licensing board regulations and controlled substance regulations. Important to know limitations and when to refer patients.

  • Ability to asses, diagnose and effectively treat common medical diseases and injuries in patients of all ages.

  • Ability to use appropriate procedural/testing equipment, to see large volume of patients, and to interface with multiple providers and support staff.

  • Strong minor surgery and procedural skills (examples: laceration repair in children and adult, abscess incision and drain, soft tissue/joint injections, fracture reductions, slit lamp use).

  • Excellent communication with team members and patients.

  • Team player.


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Two (2) years of Emergency Medicine/Urgent Care or broad-based Family Practice within the last five (5) years.

  • EKG interpretation experience

  • X-ray interpretation experience

  • Graduate of AMA-approved PA training program.

  • ANA-approved NP training Program.
