Description:
Job Summary:

Performs diagnostic ultrasonographic procedures.  Trains and orients staff members as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Performs diagnostic ultrasound procedures.  Selects proper transducer frequency and diameter for performance of exam. Utilizes ancillary devices to obtain hard copy records of exams.

  • Knowledge of using the PACS (Picture Archive and Communications System) and knowledge of the Radiology Information System. Recognizes electronic equipment limitations.  Recognizes significance of all structures visualized sonographically. Determines artifacts as well as normal or abnormal anatomy. Differentiates normal and pathological processes and extends scope of studies appropriate to comprehensive final study.

  • Remains able to deviate from normal techniques when necessary to provide a wider latitude of visualization.  Collaborates with referring physicians and contributes technical and professional knowledge to final diagnostic impression or report.  Provides technical and nursing aid for surgical biopsy and aspiration procedures.

  • Performs calibrations and adjustments of ultrasound equipment.

  • Trains and orients other staff sonographers as directed.

  • Correlates patients clinical history with test to be performed. Consults with radiologists or supervising physician after reviewing data and determines appropriate ultrasound procedure.

  • Remains knowledgeable and current regarding technological advances in field of diagnostic medical sonography.

  • Promotes and maintains inter-and intra-departmental working relations.
Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum two (2) years of post-graduate experience, including experience or successful completion of training program (pre-hire, post-hire, or on-the-job) in area of specialty, if applicable.

Education

  • Graduate from an approved ultrasound training program recognized by CAHEA, or equivalent related experience.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate
  • Basic Life Support from American Heart Association
Additional Requirements:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in customer service, interpersonal relations, oral communication, problem solving, teamwork, and written communication.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree.
