Description:
Job Summary:

Ensures resolution of routine problems pertaining to department activities.  Provides consultative expertise related to health information compliance.  Meets organizational objectives and standards toward provision of quality care to Health Plan members in accordance with accrediting and governing agency standards.  Collaborates with appropriate departments to ensure transfer of information. Collaborates with departments and physicians on mutual goals and objectives in HIM coding and documentation.  Supervises assigned staff.

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Manages, coordinates and provides leadership to the HIM supervisor and staff.  Ensures projects are completed on schedule following established procedures and schedules. Reviews department performance.

Basic Qualifications:
Experience


  • Minimum five (5) years of Health Information Management (HIM) and/or revenue cycle experience.

  • Minimum two (2) years supervisory, team leadership, and/or program management experience.

Education

  • Bachelors (BA, BS) degree in allied health, health information management (HIM) or four (4) years in a directly related field OR associates (AS, AA) degree with two (2) years equivalent HIM management experience.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Health Information Technician Certificate OR Registered Health Information Administrator Certificate
Additional Requirements:

  • Experience and knowledge of HIM operations, policies and regulations.
  • Experience conducting training programs.
  • Experience with budget management.
  • Proficientcy in a variety of software applications.
  • Ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects, use time management skills and independent judgment.
  • Ability to adapt to shifting priorities; team player, tactful and diplomatic.
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills required to communicate effectively with all levels of management internal/external.
  • Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:

  • Supervisory experience in a Health Information Management (HIM) Department.
  • Extensive experience with electronic health record (EHR) and other technological advances in health information and healthcare preferred.
  • Masters degree.
