Description:

Position Summary:


This position is responsible for surgery scheduling in perioperative settings. The scheduler must be efficient and effectively use the resources surrounding operative events by accurate and timely scheduling of cases, personnel and materials according to policies, procedures and guidelines. Scheduler must review perioperative data, to Identify any gross inaccuracies and missing data elements.


Essential Functions:


·  Performs specific scheduling functions using Op Time:over cases from case depot to aR.'s at a glance. Cancel and reschedule cases as needed.


·  Manage/edit case depot as needed. Provide assistance to surgical patients by coordinating their surgical dates.


·  Builds and maintains service blacks.


·  Keeps Surgery Schedule and Wait List updated daily adhering to the local turnaround policy.


·  Maintains the privacy and confidentiality of both member and employee with regard to medical records and communications regarding disease, conditions and status.


·  Performs assigned tasks that support safe, quality patient care delivery.


·  Performs assigned tasks in an autonomous manner using sound judgement and decision making skills.


·  Knows when to seek additional information.


·  Prioritizes and performs several functions simultaneously and on a consistent basis.


·  Updates and validates Wa t List and Scheduling information continuously.


·  Initiates unit's downtime procedures when necessary.


·  Performs O.R. control desk related duties as necessary:


·  Answer telephones, communicate schedule changes to OR charge nurse, anesthesia charge, and ASU staff.


·  Communicate with and coordinate surgical patient arrival times.


·  Accountable to ensure communication and collaboration with MD's Clinic staff for schedule oversight Supervisory


Responsibilities.


·  This job has no supervisory responsibilities.


·  Working knowledge of PCs and the ability to navigate in a Windows environment utilizing a mouse.


·  Basic Knowledge of office equipment (fax machine, copy machine, scanner).


·  Ability to clearly speak, read, writes, and thoroughly understands English.


·  Ability to leam and follow policies and procedures.



Qualifications:


·  High School Diploma/GED.



  • Demonstrates satisfactory, competence in computer data entry systems similar to those used within Kaiser Permanente, or proficiency in word processing applications, completion of medical terminology class or equivalent experience.




·  Completion of basic anatomy/physiology class as it relates to surgical pre and past-operative diagnosis and procedures or equivalent experience in Microsoft Office basic skills.


·  Required 2 years Surgery Scheduling experience in either Operating Room or Clinic setting knowledge of surgical supplies and equipment needing to be ordered.


·  Demonstrates well-developed verbal, non-verbal and written communication skills in English.


·  Demonstrates and communicates a service oriented approach to all customers.


·  Must be willing to work in a Labor Management Partnership environment. Also, refer to Position Specifications outlined In the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.



Skills Testing: Basic Computer Literacy, Typing 45 WPM and Medical Terminology.
