Description:
Job Summary:

The Senior Vice President, COO of Hospital/Area Operations, Southern California Region of Kaiser Foundation Health Plans and Hospitals (KFHP/H), has responsibility for the operations of multiple service areas for the region. This position has primary accountability for:



  • Overall performance and delivery of quality health care services for Southern California KFHP/H overseeing all aspects of operations across the Region including hospitals, homecare agencies and contract partnerships in the the following Southern California areas.

    • Service Areas: Baldwin Park, Downey, Kern, Los Angeles, Panorama City/AV, South Bay, West LA & Woodland Hills, 

    • Functional Areas: Surgical Services (SCAL & Hawaii) 



  • Driving the development of operational strategies that promote superior quality, service, and efficiency as well as ensure the long-term financial viability of the Region.

  • Building and maintaining a responsive, motivated, and high-quality operations support organization.

  • Partnering with the Regional executives and leaders to ensure operational capabilities and performance support the Region’s overarching, longer term business strategy.

  • Leadership for large scale performance and delivery system improvement initiatives.

  • Contributing to the development and maintenance of key operational relationships with the Southern California Permanente Medical Group.



Essential Responsibilities:


  • Operate as a key member of the Southern California Regional Leadership Team, leading the dialogue and decision-making processes associated with the Southern California delivery system.   Contribute to the overall leadership of the Region, in partnership with KFHP/H and SCPMG (Southern California Permanente Medical Group) leadership peers. Fill a key leadership role in various regional joint governance bodies.

  • Develop and implement regional strategies to position the delivery system for long term success, including a culture of performance, ownership and accountability. 

  • Build strong, collaborative partnerships between SCPMG and KFHP/H functional areas to facilitate the smooth accomplishment of key performance initiatives. 

  • In collaboration with Quality and Regulatory leaders, ensure operational compliance with applicable accreditation requirements and federal, state and local laws and regulations, including those pertaining to licensure, quality improvement/assurance, fire inspection, emergency preparedness, and other safety measures.  This includes review, prompt action, and appropriate escalation in response to reports and recommendations from regulatory, accreditation and inspection agencies.

  • Ensure that Health Plan and Hospital oversight responsibilities are appropriately exercised as they relate to Hospital and Continuing Care Operations.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience


  • A minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a senior operational leadership role in the managed care industry and/or in integrated delivery systems.


Education


  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Master’s degree in health care administration or business required.



Additional Requirements:


  • Knowledge of delivery system operations, strategic planning, and overall service delivery.

  • Experience in working effectively with physicians in the provision of care.

  • Experience in working effectively with labor constituents in order to successfully support the KP Labor-Management Partnership, and the needs of our workforce.

  • Proven ability to make quality based strategic business decisions.

  • Ability to build effective partnerships and influence other leaders.
