Making INROADS to Success: Interns Share Their Stories

Here at Kaiser Permanente there are a variety of opportunities for students and early career professionals to join our team and experience a career in health care with an industry leader. One such program that Kaiser Permanente has proudly partnered with for 19 years is the Learn About Unlimited New Careers in Health Care (L.A.U.N.C.H.) INROADS internship program. INROADS is the nation's largest non-profit source of paid internships for undergraduate, diverse youth.

This nine-week paid summer internship provides students with the skills, support, and networking access necessary to build bright and promising futures in corporate and community leadership. Additionally, INROADS offers scholarships, the chance for students to return to the program for consecutive summers, and the opportunity for interns to apply for positions with Kaiser Permanente when they graduate.

While INROADS interns gain valuable, hands-on experience working alongside a dedicated staff of health care professionals, they also provide a fresh perspective for our teams and prove to be prized additions to the departments in which they work.

Hear from some of our 2016 INROADS interns, as well as the Kaiser Permanente staff members who guided them:

As I approach my third year as a Strategic Legal Communications major, I am fortunate enough to say I have been able to work in my field of interest, accomplish a few of my goals and set dreams that seem less and less like ethereal thoughts. Working in the Media Relations department, I've taken witness to how Kaiser Permanente values its work, its relationships, its surrounding community and its own employees.

– Symone Williams, Media Relations Intern; Howard University

We have been granted the opportunity of a lifetime, trusted enough to work alongside healthcare professionals and given a safety net of support, mentorship and resources to guide us along the way. My internship has cultivated my interpersonal, technical and leadership skills that are vital for an outstanding career.

– Marlisha Jean Burris, Public Affairs/Community Benefit Intern; University of California, Riverside
